Researching has become a frustrating experience because most books about parenting in France are outdated and detailed information is not attainable online. I want to know what French mothers are doing and their reasons behind their decisions, not only the French mothers in my limited circle. Instead of continuing mindless fact hunting, each year I am going to hold two large studies to gain a better perspective of the trends in France.
First in line is a project of surveying French mothers about their choice of breastfeeding or bottle feeding their children. I not only want to know which choice they made, but also why and how it affected their lives. I want to know if they felt pushed into this decision, why they made this decision, and if they have any regrets. I also added questions regarding how long they took maternity leave, whether they returned to work after giving birth, and if they have advice for soon-to-be mothers in France.
This survey takes fifteen minutes to complete. Most of the questions are multiple choice and short answer. Responses to the survey will remain private unless I am provided with explicit permission to use her name. The survey is submitted through an online form – the only identifying information I receive is the person’s email address unless she provides her name on the form.
I am looking for women who were born and raised in France to complete this survey. If you know someone, please pass the link to the survey to her (the survey is entirely in French). The more responses I receive, the more accurate the results. So please help me spread the word.

This survey closes on December 31, 2012.
Results will be published on February 1, 2013.

Have you published the link to your questionnaires on any discussion rooms, parenting communities, forums etc?
Popular ones here are “Doctissimo”, “magicmaman”, “aufeminin”. Of course you’ll have to register each time to post, but it will be a good way to enlarge your panel of responses.

I started on Tuesday, but it takes some time because I have to register to each place. I already posted on aufeminin, and the other two are on my list. As of this morning, I’ve received the most referrals from maman.fr. After I am done posting in large French forums and parenting sites, I will begin contacting French maman bloggers. Maybe the will write a post to let women know about the survey. If I get some courage, I will also print it out and ask women in person. The results so far are very interesting! I can’t wait to do the final analysis and share them with everyone.

That’s funny what you say about breastfeeding. I guess everyone judges from their own experiences. All the women in my family breastfed and it has never ever been viewed as odd. For those who don’t there are two possible explanations: in general French women do not have big breasts (it is always a struggle to find a good bra for bigger boobs) and I assume a lot of them simply do not produce enough milk. Otherwise there is undeniably a low pain tolerance. Everything is so medicated that I know instances of women who stopped after a couple of days because they found it too painful. I mean how chochotte is that?

that type of information written in such a perfect method?
I’ve a project that I’m just now running on, and I’ve been on the look
