A wealth of information can be found on the Start Business in France website. Valerie Lemiere is French and works in France as a business adviser for the national organization called Boutique de Gestion. She helps French entrepreneurs with all aspects of starting and running their business.
This video presentation is slightly over 24 minutes (so grab a large cup of coffee) and discusses:
- How the health systems works
- Difference between employees and the self-employed
- What happens when you set up a business
- How to set up your health coverage (social security number, carte vitale, adding family members)
- Practical tips
- Pregnancy coverage for women entrepreneurs
I wish I found this video during my first pregnancy in France! I was surprised to find out I qualified for paid maternity leave as an auto-entrepreneur (similar to a sole-proprietor in the USA).
What do you think of this video? Does it answer all your questions or do you have anything you’d like to add?
If you are (or are interested in becoming) a business owner in France, visit Valerie’s website. I used it religiously when I decided to become an auto-entrepreneur. I also follow her Facebook fan page to receive updates – most recently she announced that social charges increased for us this year (thanks Hollande!).
