First of all, breathe. France is a wonderful place to give birth with excellent doctors, midwives, and facilities at your disposal. I found that the more I accomplished during my first few months, the less stressed I was later. The doctor ordered me to remain in bed for my entire 7th month and take it easy until my daughter was born, so I was relieved that I did all my shopping early.
Here is a checklist of things that you should do within the first twelve weeks of pregnancy:
- Take a blood test to confirm you are pregnant.
- Mail out your pregnancy declaration forms with the blood test results.
- Contact your mutual or private health insurance.
- Find an obstetrician-gynecologist or midwife.
- Register with a maternity.
- Go to your scheduled medical appointments.
- Schedule appointments for birth preparation courses.
Some things that are nice to get out of the way immediately are:
- Start hunting for stores you like that sell maternity clothes and baby supplies.
- Create a checklist of baby supplies that you will need.
- Find the nearest pediatrician for after your baby is born.
